Club Highlights for 2024

The MCCSC year 2024 – in 20 points.

Club Profile

Manchester Cross-Country Ski Club (MCCSC) was founded in January 1984 in Altrincham as a focus for people with an interest in cross-country skiing. Read a potted illustrated history of the club produced to celebrate its 40th Anniversary in November 2024.

MCCSC is now a multidiscipline Nordic club for Cross‑Country, Roller and Telemark Skiers in and around Manchester and Preston, UK. Join in the fun with fellow enthusiasts in the North West of England and develop your skiing with coaching for both Telemark and Roller skiing provided by the club.

MCCSC is proud of the strength and depth of its coaching provision and of being one of the largest Cross‑Country clubs and the largest civilian Telemark club in England. Our common aim is to share and enjoy all aspects of Nordic skiing, bringing like-minded people together to ski, whether it be on a cycle track, road, indoor ski slope or in the mountains.

Membership now covers a wide area of the North-West. MCCSC provides a range of activities including:
  - Roller ski courses on a purpose built cycle track (UCLan Sports Arena, Preston)
  - Roller ski open track sessions UCLan Sports Arena, Preston and Tameside Cycle Track, Ashton‑under‑Lyne
  - Roller ski challenges (Northern Roll series, held at various venues in the North West and North East of England)
  - Snowsport England Proficiency Award Scheme evaluations
  - Telemark instruction (Chill Factore, Manchester)
  - Telemark racing (Chill Factore, Manchester)
  - Preparation for the Snowsport England Coaching Award Scheme to become an Instructor or Coach in Roller, Cross-Country & Telemark skiing

Additionally the club has members who also take part in snow based cross-country ski activities abroad such as recreational and loppet race skiing on prepared tracks, biathlon, telemark downhill skiing and hut‑to‑hut touring. Some members also take advantage of UK snow to explore Britain’s hills on skis.

MCCSC caters for a considerable variety of skiing skills and ability and welcomes beginners* and experienced skiers alike.

*Note that introduction to Telemark requires previous Alpine skiing experience.
